A typical Balachander classic, Ethir Neechal became one of the well known movies of Nagesh. Very good comedy lines and many melodious songs form part of this classic.
The story is about an orphan Madhu (Nagesh) who stays under the stairs of the multi family complex and does all the chores for the residents. He is fed by each of the residents in turn. A retired person (Major Sundarajan) and a hotel employee Muthuraman support him from the treatment from the other residents. The daughter of one of the resident (SN Lakshmi) comes to the complex.
