Prabhu Deva is an acclaimed choreographer, actor and director in India. Before starting as a full time actor, he did some song sequences in films. The most remembered songs were April Mayile from Idhayam, Lalakku Dol Dappima from Sooriyan, Chikku Bukku Rayilu from Gentleman and Chinna Raasave Chitterumbu from Valter Vetrivel. He is the second son of famous choreographer, Sundaram and younger brother to another choreographer, Raju Sundram.
Prabhu Deva was first noticed when he made a brief appearance in a song in Gentlemen. The dancing prowess he displayed in the song Chiku buku raile made young audiences go crazy. He can be seen dancing in the background group alongside his brother Rajusundaram for the song “Raja Rajathi Raja” in the Maniratnam-directed Agni Natchathiram.
Prabhu Deva’s first movie as a hero was in Indhu with actress Roja. While this movie being made, he was handpicked as Hero in Kadhalan, directed by Shankar. Kadhalan has changed Prabhu Deva’s life in Tamil Film Industry. In the movie he was different in the song mukala in which he changed his hair color to blond when his hair is black and the song became a hit and this was the same year in 1994 when Indhu released.
Upon release, Indhu receives so many mix reviews and was one of the most controversial movie. Right from some scenes in the movie and also the songs. “Sakkaravalli” song was the most controversial song and S.P.Balasubramaniyam has publicly apologize for it and refused to sing this type of songs again.
In Malaysia, the movie was banned first. Then it was altered with some scenes being censored and removed and re-released as “Pattas”.
However, all the songs in this movie was instant hit and Indhu was one of the movie that lift Deva’s carrier as Music Director.
Prabhu Deva’s was popularly called “India’s Michael Jackson” for his fast dance movements and with a lot of news about upcoming movie “Kadhalan” makes Indhu a successful debut movie for Prabhu Deva
